Paintings for Ants

South African artist, Lorraine Roots, began the ‘365 Paintings for Ants’ project in 2013. This saw her create a unique miniature painting every day for a year, with each one taking between three to six hours to complete.

Unsurprisingly, this was a huge success, and resulted in the creation of ‘365 Postcards for Ants’ in 2014. These depicted images of the place Roots’ knows best… Cape Town, her home city.

Since then, ‘Paintings for Ants’ has expanded to incorporate miniature paintings inspired by Roots’ travels around the globe, to locations such as LA, Chicago, Singapore, and Australia.

Roots must have the steady hands of a surgeon, as each painting is incredibly intricate and detailed, not to mention super adorable.

If you are located in Sydney, Australia right now, then get excited! Roots will be showcasing her work at ‘Courtesy of the Artist’ from April 19th until May 6th and attendance is FREE! Roots will also be running a series of workshops where participants can create their own miniature paintings. More information about the show and the workshops can be found here.
