Tora.

Tora.

Tora are an Australian, electronic band heralding from Byron Bay, New South Wales. We had the privilege of attending one of their gigs this month, during their Australia wide tour, and were blown away by their musical talent.

Tora, meaning ‘now’ in Greek, are a four piece band incorporating layered instrumentation with impressive vocals. They have a chilled-out, relaxing vibe that consumes your entire body. Lead singer, Jo Loewenthal has what one listener described as “the voice of an angel”. He’s able to hit those high notes, while maintaining an ethereal musicality and stage presence. Reminiscent of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, those vocals are what make this band a powerhouse act that is difficult to compete with.

They mention James Blake as one of their major influences, and you can see the similarities in their soulful melodies and vocals. Other influences include Little Dragon and Sohn.

Their latest album ‘Take a Rest’ has just been released. This was mastered by Andrei Eremin, the Grammy nominated musical genius behind Chet Faker, WAFIA and Hiatus Kaiyote. This album gained inspiration from organic, everyday noises, turning them into melodious rhythms, which are integrated into numerous songs. ‘Another Case’ is the first single off this album, providing a funky tune, a catchy beat and smooth vocals. You will want to play it over and over.

We expect to hear a lot more from Tora in the coming months. No point wasting any time, you may as well jump on the Tora lovin’ bandwagon right away.
